Remember our detailed article describing all the changes as part of the Season 2 of EMU? We said that we are planning on a major change in the online infrastructure which we will not reveal or confirm until it is checked and verified to work by the time Season 2 starts. Now we have confirmation - we are shifting our platform to Spring!
We are the first MIMIR Quiz League adopting this platform, after working with the founder of the platform Ramesh Natarajan (Notts) for several months to tailor the platform to fit the EMU style and meet its requirements. A big thanks to him, who is making this platform available to all of us. This poster details the pros:
While Wiki Quiz Scorer has been a sturdy platform for hosting thousands of MIMIR quizzes, it required a lot of effort on the part of setters and readers to use, since the questions had to be coded in Markdown and HTML for formatting text (italicizing, boldening, superscripting, subscripting etc) and attaching images, audio, and video. Now, it can be done with zero coding! In case of audio, video clips without moving images were used. Now, there is no need for that. Audio files can be directly uploaded.
As for readers, they had to install the FLQL Display Questions extension and the Mimir Question Timer extension to a Google Chrome browser (only browser where the former works), and only worked in a Windows or Mac OS environment. That’s a serious restriction and source of frustration. Now, you can read the games in any browser in any Operating System (including our favourite Linux OS), without installing anything! Need we say more?
Since this is a new platform, there are small variations in the way the games are done. So, we will be doing a demo for you all the people intending to use Spring for MIMIR quizzing, whether for friendlies or for competitive events like the EMU Quiz League on the 20th of July (Saturday) at 1900 hrs (7 PM) Indian Standard Time. People who intend to read games during Season 2 of EMU are especially encouraged to attend this event. The Zoom link for this demo session, which will be prefaced by a introduction from the founder of Spring, will be shared on all our socials (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram) on the day of the event. We will also be live-streaming this event on our YouTube channel.
